Vicky and I have been exercising together since 1995, when she invited me to join her for a “high impact step aerobics class.” Who was I to refuse such an offer? Just quietly I think she was testing me to see if I would go through with that uncoordinated torture (and I’m pretty certain she was laughing at my two left feet).
Over the past 2 decades we’ve covered tens of thousands of kilometres swimming, cycling and running together. We’ve spotted each other doing countless sets of squats and bench presses. We’ve buddy stretched to get flexible enough to do the splits. What was initially a friendship built on one repetition at a time, slowly evolved into a relationship of love and marriage. Lots of things have changed in the past 20 years, but one of the many things that remains the same is our love and passion for movement, exercise, training and competition.
Todays session was intense! We had an easy warm up run to local park (approx. 2km away from home), and then…
- 10x pull-ups
- 10x triceps dips
- 10x push-ups
- 500m running sprint
- Repeat x5 rounds
So… get up from the couch, turn off the TV, put your phone down, say “Hi” to your wife/husband/partner, and ask if they’ll join you for a run/walk/swim/bike ride/gym session.
