It’s freezing here in Melbourne and this weather is enough to make you want to curl up and hibernate! But I must say I’m feeling pretty motivated at the moment to train and to train hard. Getting up early in the morning when its cold and wet is definitely a challenge but I’m still finding it possible to fit a session in at some other time during the day and therefore keep the momentum up.

I’m thrilled to have done the ‘Run Melbourne’ half marathon last week!! My legs have paid the price this week and so a few lighter sessions and lots of stretching have been the go. This afternoon Joey and I (and Ipek and Matt, oh yes and Elijah and Charli) headed down to Duncan McKinnnon reserve for a bit of a run strength session – so if you’re looking for a challenge this weekend how about giving this one a go:

Warm-up jog: 5min

Around a 400m track this works really well:

  • 300m jog; 100m effort
  • 200m jog; 200m effort
  • 100m jog; 300m effort
  • walk recovery 1-2min
The stair repeats: about 30 steps each time
  • Run up one step at a time
  • Jump up two steps at a time (second time round do these as leaps)
  • Repeat x 5
Then repeat the whole thing again… and finally  repeat the jog/efforts around the track for a third time
Cool down and then stretch!
OUCH!!!
