You’ve got to know where you are in order to get to where you want to be! Just like reading a map… If you don’t know where you are starting from, it is impossible to plot a journey and get to your intended destination. So this week is about finding out where you are in terms of your health and fitness. Testing and measuring is the name of the game and this is specifically what:
1. 3km time trial – head down to a track or map out a flat course using something like mapmyrun.com and then get out there and ‘run yourself ugly’. No holding back. This is all about going hard and fast. Don’t forget to time yourself.
2. Push-ups in a minute – as many as you can. Preferably on your toes but if this not possible, just record how many you do on your toes and then how many on your knees. Get someone to place their fist under your chest, only count the push-ups where your chest touches the fist.
3. Sit-ups in a minute – bend your knees, fingers interlocked behind your head and get someone to stand on or hold your feet. One sit-up is counted when you curl up, touch your elbows to your knees and then curl all the way back down onto your back.
4. BMI: weigh yourself and measure your height. BMI is your weight (kg) divided by your height squared. 20 – 25 is what you are looking for in order to be within the healthy weight range. Even if this is not your focus it is still good to know where you are.
So thats it. Joey and I will post our results in our training logs. Fit this challenge in at some point during the week ahead. Looking forward to hearing some results.
