Unfortunately the weather closed in on us. The mountains can be unpredictable when it comes to the weather – and it’s advisable not to mess with Mother Nature.

With winds in excess of 60km/hr, Rusty and I decided it may be smart to give the ride a miss.
Instead, we strolled over to the cafe and milled over a fresh brew.
After a play with the dogs, adults and kids went horse riding – a lovely trot through the trails that are used for winter cross country skiing.

A well deserved extended siesta after a good feed.

That evening the weather really closed in with temperatures plummeting down to low single figures – a white Xmas!!!

I woke the next morning keen to give the freedom machine another chance. I saddled up and after about 20 pedal strokes my teeth were chattering and fingers were numb. Temperature was sitting at 1 degree (‘feels like’ temperature at -2.5 degrees… Brrrrr).
I turned around, went inside and made myself a warm cuppa (feeling a bit soft for bailing on the ride).

To sum it up…
– We had 2 fantastic weather days (temperatures in the high 20’s) with lots of outdoor activity.
– 1 very windy day with alternate options (horse riding, relaxing, kids playground)
– 1 pretty cold day with temperatures in single digits

I would recommend heading up to the high country. The air is crisp, the stars are plentiful, and its always good to get away for a few days.
The drive there from Melbourne takes approx 5 hours. I would recommend heading there via Bright and back via Omeo (also depends on what side of the city you’re traveling from).

Stay tuned for more active adventures.
